Watch out for henna tattoos and cheap jewellery
Allergenic tattoo colour and jewellery flourish in the summer.

In the summertime, music festivals, markets and fairgrounds are everywhere - teeming and tempting with cheap jewellery and tattoos.

But the ornamentation can be an unhealthy experience. This was the conclusion of the EPA Chemical Inspection Serviceafter visiting the Roskilde Festival, where jewellery containing lead and too high nickel release was found.

Also, a booth selling henna tattoos was closed upon inspection after the discovery of allergenic tattoo colour.

Black temporary henna tattoos may cause lifelong allergic reactions, for instance hair colorant, and nickel allergy is one of the most common allergies in Denmark.

There is legislation in the area, but it is not always respected.

The risk of buying jewellery with an excessive release of nickel is particularly high among street vendors, markets and abroad.
