Allergy among Danish eczema patients to black dye (PPD)
P-Phenylenediamine (PPD) is used as a pigment in permanent hair dyes. It is highly allergenic.
It may also occur in some temporary, so-called henna tattoos, which are often sold at tourist sites.
Allergic reactions to hair dyes can be very severe and lead to hospitalization because of facial swelling.
